Find the Forest Frogs

Don your gumboots and help search for our forest frogs under the guidance of our local frog expert. Be prepared to get your hands dirty and have fun as you go ‘knee deep’ to locate these mysterious and beautiful amphibians.

Kids Go Frogging

Hey kids! We’ve got a couple of special Kids Go Frogging sessions, where you’ll be taken to the very edge of the watery world of frogs. Afterwards you get to make your own frog badges and brooches.

Nightshift

Bring your torch and spotlight some of the mysteries of the forest. Guides will help you get to know the bush by tuning in to the forest’s nightlife. Sing along with the crickets and search for the glowing eyes of an owl or possum. Stare at the stars while sipping a cuppa and then meet some of our native fauna face to face. This is a most popular activity, so bookings are essential. BYO Torch

Wild about Wildflowers

Stroll along flower clad forest walks and enjoy a panorama of colours and perfumes of Western Australia’s wildflowers. Put a name to those puzzling shrubs and learn about their preferred habitats. Discover how the many different animals, insects and plants depend on each other to create this wonderland.

Awesome Orchids

Spy on the secret life of WA’s awesome orchids. The spider, jug, bird, and donkey orchids are just some of the delicate beauties you’ll come across. Take a camera and capture their sunny faces before they disappear for another year. You’ll learn about their growth habits and how they fit into the overall scheme of a forest’s biodiversity.

Woodman Point wanderings

Take a casual stroll with a Nyoongar guide and learn about the links between Aboriginal and European history of Woodman Point Regional Park. Learn about the methods of bush tucker collecting and preparation. See some of the tools and learn about Aboriginal hunting methods. Gain a better understanding of the deep connection Aboriginal people have to nature.

Animal Chatter at Karakamia

Visit the peaceful Karakamia Sanctuary for a twilight walk through beautiful bushland and listen to the evening chatterings of animals. Bring your torch to search for possums, quendas, woylies and many more. Wear sturdy shoes as the walk follows rocky bush tracks which can be slippery in parts.

Ranger for a day

Kids! Spend a whole day with a National Parks Ranger at John Forrest National Park. Experience first-hand what’s it like to go on patrol in the Ranger’s vehicle, talk on the two-way radio, and check walk trails and picnic areas. You’ll learn how to spot a bushfire and be taken to some of the Ranger’s favourite spots. Bring a hearty lunch, heaps of water and some snacks and wear tough clothes, sturdy shoes and a hat. Numbers limited, book early.

Bush Survival Skills

Develop some bushy skills and how to tread lightly in Bookings close: 13 September 2001

Your guide will take you through different activities including fire lighting, first aid for snake bite, and string making. Learn about native plants and their uses and how to tell direction from the sun and moon. You’ll learn skill in ancient and modern techniques for making survival tools from the bush and what to do if you ever get lost in the bush and how not to get lost in the first place. You’ll get time to practise these and lots more useful hints in this 4 hour session. Bring a hearty picnic lunch to have under the trees.
