Play Dough Recipes

Cooked Play Dough

1 cup of salt
2 cups of plain flour
2 tablespoons of oil
1-2 teaspoons of cream of tartar
2 cups of water
food colouring

Method

Combine ingredients in a saucepan, adding water and oil last and stirring in gradually.  Cook 3-5 minutes constantly until the mixture leaves the side of the pan and forms one mass. Knead slightly on a table top. Store in an airtight container. The dough should keep for months.

Uncooked Play Dough

½ cup salt
1 cup of flour
¼ teaspoon of vegetable dye
water

Method

Place the flour in the bowl. Add salt and stir. Add a little vegetable dye. Add water slowly and stir until a dough forms. Keep stirring and kneading until smooth and stretchy.

To keep: add 1 drop of peppermint oil or antiseptic.

To store: Keep in an air tight container in the fridge. This dough should last up to 2 weeks. Add more flour if the dough becomes sticky.

Don’t forget, kneading bread dough is also another great activity. And the kids can eat it!
