Simple Games for Rainy
Days
There
are many simple games you can make up which will provide hours of fun. The
best part is once you’ve shown the children how to play, they will be able
to play them over and over themselves and with their friends.
What’s
Under the Blanket
You need:
A blanket
Some household objects
Ask
the children to close their eyes, hid behind a couch or go into another room
while you collect some household items and spread them out on the floor.
Cover them with a blanket. Call the children over and let them take turns to
feel and guess one object at a time. When they have guessed correctly pull
the object out so that they can see it.
When
all objects have been identified let someone else have a turn to hide some
different objects. You may to play “ Where do they belong” after each
game to put the objects back where they came from!
Feather
fun
You
need:
Some feathers (pinch them from your feather duster if you don’t
have any!)
Blow
the Feather – see how long it
takes to blow the feathers across the room. You could try and blow them into
a container, under a table, etc.
Flying
feathers – drop feathers over the balustrade at the top of some stairs and
watch them float down. See which ones are faster.
Tickling
time – ask the children to stand still and see how long they can stand
being tickled without wriggling and giggling.
Use
your imagination to come up with your own ideas.
Cotton Ball Frenzy
You
need:
Cotton balls
A small container for each child
Spread
some cotton balls out on the floor and let the children take turns to close
their eyes and find all the cotton wool balls.
Believe it or not, my six-year-old still loves to play this! They
also have a good laugh when mum has a go. You can let them do it together
and see how many each person can get.
If
they are game, you may want to try it with a blind fold. This seems to add a
certain thrill factor!
