Lets
make Christmas cards
There are so many ways you can
have fun together making beautiful cards to give away. Most of the ideas
can also be used on brown paper to make great wrapping paper. Here are a
few ideas.
Potato prints
Cut some potatoes in half
and then carve some shapes into them. Some easy designs include a
Christmas tree, star, heart, candy cane, bell. Dip the potato in paint and
press on to a card.
Tip: Put one paint colour
on each dish/ lid and ask the children to use one shape for each colour.
Wax Resistant Designs
Make patterns, pictures,
swirls etc all over the paper with an old white candle. Mix up watery red
and green poster paints and paint over the patterns. The paper will take
the paint but the patterns will shine through.
Let’s Recycle
Find some old Christmas
cards and cut out pictures from the front. Glue these onto cards and
decorate with glitter.
Snowflake Cards.
Put paper doilies on the
front of the card. Spray with gold, silver, red or green paint. Remove
doilies and leave to dry.
Sew, Sew, Sew.
This is a good idea for
older children. Draw a simple picture on the front of the card (like a
Christmas tree) with a light pencil. Make holes around the edge of the
picture by placing the card on a kitchen sponge and poking the holes with
a darning needle. The children can then sew around the picture using a
darning needle and coloured wool/ twine/ ribbon.
Photo Cards
Take photos of the family
in Christmas attire. Scan these on to the computer or use as is. Attach a
photo to the front of each card.
