is a Playgroup?
A Playgroup is a group of parents and carers and their young children from birth to school age who meet regularly for playing and learning.
Playgroups welcome newborns, babies, toddlers and preschoolers with their parents, grandparents or carers.
Playgroups are for everyone;
- Playgroups belong to their members, are low cost and lots of fun
- Playgroups are non-profit and non-political. They are open to everyone regardless of race, religion, colour, or social or economic position.
Why Join a Playgroup?

What Happens at Playgroup?
Where
Playgroups meet anywhere it suits their members e.g. in a hall or community centre, at home, in a park or backyard.
When
Playgroup sessions usually run for two hours once a week.
Learning through Play
Babies and children develop confidence and skills through creative and imaginative play and activities.
These low cost simple activities may include;
- water and sand play
- craft activities
- outings and excursions
- music and stories
- climbing and jumping
- dressing up
- cooking
It is never too early to start helping your baby or child to learn new skills or for you both to make new friends.
How to join a Playgroup?
There is a Playgroup association in each state of Australia who will be able to put you in touch with your local group.

What is the Playgroup Association of WA (Inc)?
The Playgroup Association of W.A. (Inc) is a community organisation managed by a voluntary Management Committee. It services and supports existing Playgroups and promotes the formation and development of new playgroups throughout Western Australia.
Membership of the playgroup Association of WA (Inc) entitles Playgroups and it’s members to access a range of services including;
