Entry 1 - Unconditional
Love - by Christine
|
|
|
|
When asking
your children what they would like to do, try to step back
and interpret what they are saying as a child.
Become a child yourself again and regain the quol
your children have and we have forgotten.
Take your shoes off and run around the back yard.
Throw a ball. Don't get angry if your child drops it. We are not perfect. Laugh!
The best form of education for a child can come from
the parents. If they see us enjoying life, they will learn to enjoy it
too. Let your
child explore: in the mud, in the kitchen cooking.
Remember, mess can be cleaned up.
Try to remember what you enjoyed as a child and let
your children's fantasies come true.
And remember to love your children unconditionally.

Entry 2 - Quality
Time - by Felicity
|
|
|
Sharing all
activities with my child, whether they be physical, educational,
leisurely or other is important.
Just so that my child knows he is loved I believe improves
his quol.

Entry 3 - Blustery
Days - by Karen |
|
|
On blustery days
there's nothing better than getting out into the fresh air with your
kids. For extra fun we sometimes design & build our own kites to
fly using crepe paper, bamboo seedling sticks and string. The kids
love it while still learning about aerodynamics, design and safe
places to fly their hand made creation. Just remember to use
water-based paints for colouring as oil based ones tend to be too
heavy to realise their dreams of flying. |

Entry 4 - No
T.V. - by Greg |
|
|
We are establishing
a holiday house south of Mandurah.
We have been travelling there every second weekend on average
for the past 6 months.
Unintentionally we
didn't purchase a TV for the house and after the great response from
our 4 children (under 10 years) we're going to keep it that way.
It is amazing how
more fulfilling live is without the TV - we don't miss it there.
(still have it back
at home in Perth 'though!)

Entry 5 - Our
Hills Haven - by Faye |
|
|
Our quol improved
when we made the decision to move up to the hills to live.
We now enjoy a wonderful rural lifestyle on 17 beautiful
acres of land that we bought for the same price that it would have
cost to buy into our previous suburb.
We now enjoy growing our own veges and fruit, while learning
together as a family about organic gardening and permaculture
principles, with the help of family and friends in our local
community. We get to
run barefoot through the paddocks, and feed our food scraps to the
chooks, while collecting delicious home grown eggs, and wonderful
manure for our garden. We
can study native wildlife in our own backyard and help with our
efforts towards conservation and rehabilitating the local flora and
fauna. All four of our
children and even our dog are all in their element. They all love living here and wouldn't trade it for the
world. We still have a
lot to work on to improve our quol even more, but WOW...what a place
to start!

Entry 6 - Holiday
Memories - by Jeanette |
|
|
When we go on
holiday I buy a scrapbook for the children.
We use it as a day to day family diary recording what we do,
who we've seen and anything that we felt was important or
interesting that day. To
accompany the text we stick in things that remind us of our holiday
such as ice cream wrappers, entry tickets to parks, an interesting
coloured leaf, etc. Each
evening we collect everything together from that day, talk about
what we did and then write and stick the items in the book. It's a
great way for the kids to get a lot more out of their holiday while
it is happening, and it reminds them about it afterwards once the
holiday is over as they can read through the book and reminisce
about the things they did. We
all take photographs on holidays as a reminder - this is done in
addition to photographs and the kids love it. |
